SHIRAZ
Also known as Syrah, this grape is seen by many as the future for SA wines. Made in a variety of styles, but generally wooded in American oak it offers a rich, spicy wine that is both complex yet easy to drink. Food pairing: rump steak, rib-eye steak or oxtail stew.

MALBEC
One of the traditional "Bordeaux varietals", Malbec has characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and has found both fame and glory in the sun-drenched climate of Argentina. Food pairing: Oxtail Stew

  An upfront, intense nose of vanilla brambles, fynbos and eucalyptus flavours. Loads of concentrated ripe berry fruit on the palate. A well balanced wine with a good structure and a long clean finish.

PINOT NOIR
A notoriously difficult grape to grow, but when done right produces some wonderfully smooth and rich examples. Food pairing: fillet steak or lamb chops.

  Muratie ~ Stellenbosch
  Wonderful balance and an elegant structure. The fruit and tannin is well integrated and in balance, ensuring a delicate yet long finish. Fresh cherries and hint of strawberry on the nose with a slight hint of French Oak in the background.

TINTA BAROCCA
One of the important Portugese port-making grapes, or used in blends, this grape is rarely found on its own, but when produced correctly can result in a unique wine. Food pairing: fillet steak, sirloin steak or spare ribs.

SANGIOVESE
In some ways Sangiovese is to Chianti as cabernet sauvignon is to Bordeaux. Both form the base of wines normally blended with other varietals and both by themselves share a certain distinctive elegance and complexity, when well-made. Food pairing: lamb chops.
  L`Ormarins Terra Del Capo Sangiovese ~ Franschhoek
  Terra Del Capo Sangiovese has a definite hint of smokiness combined with earthy mineral elements and rich fruit flavours such as prunes, apricots and peaches. This wine has an elegant tannin structure that ends softly with a slightly sweet sensation.

AMARONE STYLE WINE
Made in the traditional Amarone style, like a good Valpolicella, it is another unique wine from Asara that offers a true indulgent wine experience. Food pairing: rump steak or ostrich fillet skewer.

Another popular grape that is used in a wide range of styles, including barrel fermented, unwooded and oak ageing. It is also used as a base wine from which the Cap Classique wines are made. Food pairing: Smoked salmon or snoek, Greek salad, chicken cordon bleu or spare ribs.

  It is an elegant, fruity unwooded Chardonnay with fresh citrus and

CHENIN BLANC
South Africa has more Chenin than even in France’s Loire Valley, the
variety’s home. Used here for everything from generic “dry whites”to
ambitious sweet wines, this grape has produced some flavoursome wines.

PINOT GRIGIO
At its best this varietal produces wines that are soft, perfumed with more
colour than most other white wines. A lesser known varietal in South Africa,
but when made properly produces an exquisite wine. Food pairing: Line fish or calamari grilled.

RIESLING
This Cape Riesling grape is not to be confused with the better known German derived Rhine or Weisser Riesling, as it offers a truly South African flavour. Food pairing: Line fish, Smoked Salmon or Bobotie.

  Admired for its consistency and flavour, mown grass aromas and crisp dry finish. An old favourite, still looking remarkably well after all these years.

SEMI-SWEET WHITE WINE
These wines have slightly higher sugar levels that create charmingly, Easy drinking wines for every occasion. Food pairing : Greek salad or grilled chicken breast.

A white Cabernet from Asara Wine Estate. Limited production and certainly
one not to be missed. Food pairing: line fish of the day, chicken breast with
mushroom sauce or Karoo lamb chops.
